2024'S PremierPickleball Event

The 2024 Biofreeze USA Pickleball National Championships didn’t just rally athletes—it rallied the community. With an estimated $3.6 million in economic impact, this major event at the Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa (Nov. 9-17) proved pickleball isn’t just a game; it’s a movement.

Over 2,600 players from 47 states and 13 countries took to the courts, cheered on by 10,000 fans who came for the action and stayed to support the sport. USA Pickleball, the National Governing Body for the sport, continues to serve up wins for athletes and communities alike. USA Pickleball National Championships, first held in 2009 in Arizona, has traveled to destinations including California and Texas featuring the best in pickleball competing at the highest level before making this years return to the Sonoran Desert in Mesa, Arizona.

2024 Nationals brought the heat to Mesa, Arizona with over 2,600 athletes battling it out in a display of skill and endurance in the Sonoran Desert. Across 9 action-packed days, players competed in 3,835 intense matches, totaling 111 hours of nonstop competition on 41 courts. Thanks to the support of 88 officials ensuring all matches had referees, Nationals showcased the dedication and talent of the pickleball community, making this year’s Nationals an unforgettable celebration of the sport at its highest level.

At the 2024 Biofreeze USA Pickleball National Championships, competitors ranged from an impressive 7 years old to a seasoned 94, showcasing the sport’s unique ability to bring people of all generations together. Nationals Captivated Fans Nationwide

QVC+ and HSN+ took pickleball to the next level with 24 hours of coverage from the 2024 USA Pickleball National Championships. From Thursday, Nov. 14, to Sunday, Nov. 17, viewers enjoyed six hours of daily programming, featuring live pro-match analytics powered by VS Live. The broadcasts included insightful commentary and key competition metrics during all Center Court presented by QVC matches.

The 2024 Biofreeze USA Pickleball Nationals generated an estimated $3.6 million in economic impact, boosting the local Mesa, Arizona economy through increased visitor spending. This premier tournament attracted thousands of players and spectators, supporting hotels, restaurants and local businesses. The event showcased pickleball’s rapid growth and reinforced USA Pickleball Nationals as a big event for sports tourism.

Pickleball In the Community: Nationals Impact

The success of the 2024 USA Pickleball National Championships wouldn’t have been possible without the tireless efforts of over 150 dedicated volunteers. From event setup and teardown to hospitality and operations, they ensured everything ran smoothly every step of the way. In total, these amazing volunteers donated their time by completing 900 shifts and contributing over 1,600 hours of service. Their commitment stretched far beyond Arizona, with volunteers traveling from across the U.S., Canada and even South Africa to help make this event a success.

A Game ThatGives Back

In line with USA Pickleball’s mission to grow the sport, USA Pickleball Serves hosted two learn-to-play pickleball clinics during the 2024 Nationals in Mesa. These clinics introduced local veterans to the sport and engaged youth from A New Leaf, a community nonprofit. A special ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 13 marked the occasion as A New Leaf was gifted a new pickleball court and a Franklin Essential Bundle of equipment. In addition, 60 families residing on-site were given a generous gift from Fortune Tires—brand-new tires to help improve their lives off the court.

Stars Shine Bright At Nationals:The Celebrity Match Impact

Dinks for a Difference Celebrity Match presented by Lerner & Rowe at Nationals brought star power to the Arizona Athletic Grounds, adding a bit of glitz to the nation’s biggest pickleball event. Featuring well-known personalities from sports, entertainment, and beyond, this special showcase captivated fans and generated dollars for USA Pickleball Serves. The presence of these stars highlighted the universal appeal of pickleball and attracted widespread media attention, amplifying the sport’s visibility and appeal to new audiences.

Global Pickleball Federation hosted pickleball representatives from 17 countries at USA Pickleball Nationals during the federation’s first-ever in-person gathering. This marks a major initiative to garner international support to create synergy for the sport of pickleball and bringing the international pickleball scene to Mesa, Arizona.

Eric Decker

Former NFL Wide Receiver

Eric Decker is an accomplished athlete, entrepreneur, TV personality, spokesperson, thought leader, and philanthropist.

A wide receiver for the NFL from 2010-2018, Decker played for the Denver Broncos, New York Jets, and Tennessee Titans. He played the Super Bowl in 2014, received the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award in 2015, and was honored as United Way’s Hometown Hero at the XXIII Gridiron Gala in 2016. A Minnesota native, he also set football records and made Big Ten Conference history while attending University of Minnesota and he competed on the Golden Gophers’ baseball team as an outfielder, getting selected twice in the Major League Baseball Draft.

While playing for the NFL, Decker also starred in the E! reality series Eric & Jessie: Game On with his wife, the top-performing country singer Jessie James Decker. Over three seasons, the show chronicled the couple as they juggled family, fame and football.

Since retiring from the NFL in 2018, Decker, who has bachelor’s degree in business and marketing from the University of Minnesota, has run Kittenish, the popular, Nashville-based fashion brand designed by wife Jessie James Decker. As president of the company, the brand has expanded as a successful online retailer with three brick-and-mortar stores located in Nashville, Dallas, and Tampa.

As a philanthropist, Decker is a longtime supporter of HopeKids, whose mission is to restore hope and transform the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions, their families and communities. He is also a board member for Nashville Wine Auction, a self-sustaining, non-profit organization which exists solely to raise funds to support the fight against cancer.

In 2023, Decker received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Minnesota.

A thought leader and spokesperson, Decker is often tapped for his expertise in business, health and fitness, and sports.

Shane Doan

NHL Executive and Former Arizona Coyotes Winger

Shane Doan is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and executive, renowned for his 21-season career in the NHL, primarily with the Arizona Coyotes. A powerful right-winger and respected leader, Doan served as the Coyotes’ captain for 13 seasons, solidifying his status as one of Arizona’s most iconic sports figures. Throughout his career, he earned a reputation for his toughness, scoring prowess, and exemplary sportsmanship, accumulating over 400 goals and 972 points. A two-time NHL All-Star, Doan also proudly represented Canada internationally, winning gold at the IIHF World Championships.

After retiring in 2017, Doan transitioned to hockey management, serving as the Arizona Coyotes’ Chief Hockey Development Officer before joining the Toronto Maple Leafs as an Assistant to the General Manager in 2023. In this role, he works closely with the Leafs’ front office, contributing his extensive hockey knowledge and leadership experience to the team’s player development and strategic planning.

Beyond the rink, Doan is celebrated for his philanthropic efforts and deep ties to the Arizona community, where he continues to inspire and give back.

Jake Plummer

Former NFL and ASU Quarterback

After a successful four years as an ASU Sun Devil, NFL pro-bowl quarterback Jake Plummer, spent 10 years in the NFL.

With six years leading the Arizona Cardinals and four with the Denver Broncos, the game left a toll on Jake's body, leaving him to search for ways to heal and maintain his health. After diving into natural remedies, Jake founded Umbo, a functional mushroom company alongside UFC hall of famer, Rashad Evans.

Speaking about the health benefits of mushrooms and living an active lifestyle, whether it be handball, yoga or pickleball, Jake has dedicated his life to learning and educating people on natural ways to health and wellness.
